For years, scientists have been trying to reverse the terrible toll that snakebites take on societies in tropical regions in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. In some cases, snakebites can lead to amputations and even death. The race is now on to develop a universal antivenom – something scientists have failed to do so far because of the complexity and variety of venoms around the world.
